LABORATORY TECHNIQUES IN BIOMATERIALS AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Initial training on preparation of 2D and 3D substrates (hydrogels and porous biomaterials) for culturing cells and basic training on cell studies will be carried out at INEB during the first 3 months of the programme. The essential topics to be covered in the period at INEB include four modules. A fifth module will be included in the training programme and will be organized by IBEC.

Module 2 - Engineering Surfaces For Protein-Biomaterial Interactions

Location: INEB, Porto
Date: 21 Jan – 1 Feb 2013

Fellows will learn how to engineer surfaces at the molecular level and study the effect of surface properties on protein adsorption. Protein adsorption will be characterized using ellipsometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), adsorption kinetics and competitive adsorption (using quartz crystal microbalance – QCD associated with monoclonal antibodies), conformation alteration (using Infrared spectroscopy) and exposure of cell-binding epitopes using labeled antibodies (ELISA).

Organizer:  Cristina L. Martins

Tutors: Cristina Martins (CM), Inês Gonçalves (IG), Mário Barbosa (MB), Ricardo Vidal (RV), Raquel Gonçalves (RG), Carlos Sá (CS; CEMUP)
