LABORATORY TECHNIQUES IN BIOMATERIALS AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Initial training on preparation of 2D and 3D substrates (hydrogels and porous biomaterials) for culturing cells and basic training on cell studies will be carried out at INEB, during the first 3 months of the programme. The essential topics to be covered in the period at INEB include four modules. A fifth module will be included in the training programme and will be organized by IBEC.

Module 1 - Preparation and characterization of hydrogel-like 3D matrices
Location:
 INEB, Porto
Date: 7 Jan – 18 Jan 2013

Fellows will learn how to synthesise peptide-modified alginates and use them for the preparation of in situ forming hydrogel-like 3D matrices. The module includes hands-on practical sessions on different hydrogel characterization techniques: Size Exclusion Chromatography (molecular weight), Oscillation Rheometry (gelation, viscoelastic properties), Dynamic Mechanical Analyzes, and Cryogenic Scanning Electron Microscopy (microstructure).

Organizer: Cristina Barrias

Tutors: Cristina Barrias (CB), Sílvia Bidarra (SB), Sara Neves (SN), Pedro Granja (PG) e Ricardo Vidal (RV)
