LABORATORY TECHNIQUES IN BIOMATERIALS AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Initial training on preparation of 2D and 3D substrates (hydrogels and porous biomaterials) for culturing cells and basic training on cell studies will be carried out at INEB, during the first 3 months of the programme. The essential topics to be covered in the period at INEB include four modules. A fifth module will be included in the training programme and will be organized by IBEC.

Module 5 - Generation, culture and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)
Location:
IBEC, Barcelona
Date: Jul-Aug 2014

Fellows will learn how to reprogram human adult somatic cells (fibroblasts and/or keratinocytes) to pluripotency for the generation of human iPSC. They will be introduced into the general techniques for their characterization, including immunofluorescence, real-time RT-qPCR, DNA methylation assays, and analysis of teratoma assays. Fellows will also be introduced to procedures for directing iPSC differentiation in vitro toward MSC-like cells, mesendoderm derivatives (cardiomyocytes), and neuroectoderm derivatives (dopaminergic neurons).
